The Independent-Study format is the lightest way into Foundations: the same core material, at the lowest cost and time commitment, for coaches who want to explore AAN independently before deciding whether to go deeper.
It doesn't carry ICF CCEUs, so it's best suited to coaches who prefer to learn independently but value the content itself over the credit hours.
